Take a Hike with Rudy Giecek

Instagram - Rudy Giecek.png

I met Rudy Giecek through the Mixed Mental Arts Podcast group.  He has a successful podcast of his own, The Cascade Hiker Podcast centered around the old tried and true outdoor activity of hiking.  His story is one of humility and self-awareness as he may have grown up hiking but it wasn’t until later in life that he rekindled and discovered his love for trekking through the woods.  However, he’s much more than a hiker and podcaster but a man dedicated to his faith, his family and friends.

This is America with Isaiah Gooley

_Instagram - Isaiah Gooley.png

Our first episode featuring Jim Sanders was about race.  During our conversation, he mentioned a seminal book The New Jim Crow by Michelle Alexander and I felt motivated to read it.  After I did I reached out to my friend Isaiah Gooley from the Mixed Mental Arts community to see if he would like to discuss the book itself.  The book is an extremely important piece of literature in regards to understanding American Culture.  This is our conversation about it.

Stereotyped Part 2 with Liam Breunle

Instagram - Liam Part 2.png

I found it impossible to pack in even one conversation with Liam Breunle into a single episode so here is the second half of our conversation.  Stereotyping others is a flaw we all suffer from both from others and from our own hand.  Liam is scientific evidence that fighting stereotypes are worth the effort.  I reached out to him after he started following the podcast on from his Instagram account and encourage everyone to follow his burgeoning career!

Stereotyped Part 1 with Liam Breunle

Copy of Instagram - Liberty.png

It seems to be in our very nature to stereotype others for a variety of reasons.  How does this stack up when a person is the embodiment of a stereotype but it isn’t accurate?  How do we deal with the shattering of these images?  What does it tell us about ourselves.

Liam Breunle started following the podcast on from his Instagram account.  When I realized it wasn’t a random travel blog or hair product account farming for followers I took a look around his profile.  Former WWE wrestler.  Stand Up Comedian/Actor.  Former Accounts Receivable with the Italian Mafia.  Add in he looks like the picture perfect Biker and stereotypes were made but something seemed potentially off.  I dug deeper, looked around and with a little tug at my heart to motivate me I reached out to him and invited him to have a conversation about stereotypes.

Yeti isn’t just a Cup with Tony Merkel

Yeti_Tony Merkel

Is Bigfoot real?  Are the stories around supernatural experiences and entities simply the delusions of people?  Can you be a Christian and believe in these modern-day stories that defy “nature”?

I met Tony Merkel at the end of 2017 when I started this podcast and while it took a while to get him on the show it was worth the wait!  He hosts the extremely popular podcast The Confessionals which is a series of interviews with people who have experienced the paranormal, supernatural and anything in and around that arena.  I made a stupid assumption when we first came in contact with each other and assumed anyone who believed in these kinds of things would not be a Christian.  I was wrong and it was a lesson that really made me relook at my own faith and confess that there is not as big a gap between the natural and supernatural as I had thought.

The Fermentation of Life with Trenton Kaminski

Copy of Instagram - Amy Gray-Cunningham

What in the world is Kombucha?  How does someone go from never having heard of kombucha to starting his own company selling it?

I met Trenton Kaminski when I bought a bottle of kombucha at his shop in Richmond, TX.  After a few conversations around his product and a bunch of other stuff I invited him to come onto the podcast.  Trenton is not satisfied with just buying a product or idea.  He is compelled to dive into the marrow of things and get to the essence of what makes something work.

The Gift of Life with Amy-Gray Cunningham

Instagram - Amy Gray-Cunningham

What would compel someone to donate one of their kidney’s to a complete stranger?  What are the truths and myths about being a living donor?

I was introduced to Amy Gray-Cunningham through my friend Anastasia Lipske from Access Speakers.  Amy is a living kidney donor and felt a direct calling from above to give one of her kidney’s to a total stranger.  Join us as we talk about her journey and find out that despite the extraordinary act Amy, and anyone else who can donate a kidney, is just like you and me.

You can find a link to Amy’s book here about her experience donating a kidney titled Daring to Believe.  It’s available in both hardcopy and on Kindle.

A Cup of Joe with Bryan Hibbard

Instagram - Bryan HIbbard.png

How far out should your pinky go when drinking fine coffee? What’s the difference between a French Press and French Vanilla?  What’s the magic behind sharing a cup of coffee with someone?

Bryan Hibbard and I met at his new coffee shop Fort Bend Coffee Roasters and I invited him to the table based on his knowledge and passion for all things coffee.  Like so many people he started his shop after a lifetime of experiencing the intimate benefits of sharing coffee with friends and family coupled with the pursuit of a great cup of joe.

When A Warrior Atheist Prays with Jerry Dugan

Instagram - Jerry Dugan (2)

What would motivate an atheist to pray?  Is “everything fair” in war?  Is there room for compassion and grace in a combat zone?

Jerry Dugan and I connected through Facebook and I was invited to be on his podcast Beyond the Rut that he hosts with Brandon Cunningham.  I was struck by the humility and presence of both gentlemen.  I invited Jerry to come to the table but had a vague idea of why outside of a tug at my heart.  This is by far one of the most revealing and amazing conversations I’ve been a part of during this journey.  I’m so grateful to Jerry for his honesty, authenticity and transparency.
